About the role
Join PatientPoint to be part of a dynamic team creating change in and around the doctor’s office. As a leading digital health company, we innovate to positively impact patient behaviors. Our purpose-driven approach offers an inspirational career opportunity where you can contribute to improving health outcomes for millions of patients nationwide. Location: Remote within the United States Travel Requirements: 2-4 Times a year Job Summary The Senior Staff Engineer on the Ops Portal team is a technical anchor at the intersection of field operations and software engineering. You will serve as the Engineering Lead within the product trio, owning the technical direction and architecture of the tools that Field, DS, and Client Operations rely on every day: Ops Portal, the Device Configurator Application (DCA), and Unified Device Diagnostics (UDD), an AI agent platform that collects device data and diagnoses issues across the fleet. This is a hands-on role with broad scope. It spans three products and the shared Android device platform, which is why it sits at Senior Staff. You will write production code, sign off on the team’s highest-risk changes, and shape what gets built alongside the Product Lead and Design Lead. You will also bring Android, IoT, and AI agent expertise to PatientPoint’s Engineering Architecture Group. What You Will Do Own technical direction for Ops Portal, DCA, and UDD: architecture, standards, and release cadence. Stay hands-on. Write production code in Kotlin, Python, and Node.js, and review work across the React front end, the serverless backend, and the Android and iOS apps. Partner with the Product Lead and Design Lead from discovery through planning. Assess feasibility and surface technical constraints, capacity, and sequencing risks before commitments are made. Architect and build services and APIs for real-time device communication and remote command and control, on AWS IoT Core and MQTT, serverless AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, Cognito), and Terraform. Lead the evolution of UDD and the Ops AI assistant: AI agents on AWS Bedrock that use tools over MCP, with human-in-the-loop controls and evals that show they work. Move the product area from reactive troubleshooting toward eventual proactive, self-healing operations. Own change safety for the fleet. Sign off on the team’s highest-risk changes, such as bulk updates to tens of thousands of devices, device provisioning, and anything that lets AI act on a device, and make sure each has a staged rollout and a tested rollback. Hold the security bar: authentication and authorization, secrets, and keeping PHI out of logs, screenshots, and LLM output. Work with the other device teams that share the Android codebase (core libraries, the DMM agent, and fleet deployment tooling) so changes land safely for every team that ships from it. Ensure the product is instrumented and observable. Establish usage metrics, error tracking, and performance monitoring so the team makes evidence-based decisions. Engage with the Architecture Group: submit RFCs for significant architectural decisions, uphold org-wide standards, and lead R&D and proofs of concept in AI-assisted diagnostics, self-healing device workflows, and next-gen provisioning. Support story breakdowns, design sessions, and PR reviews. Mentor engineers and raise the team’s technical capability. What We Need 10+ years of software engineering experience building and running production systems. Strong backend proficiency in Kotlin and/or Python, building reliable services and APIs. Hands-on experience with Android device fleets: Android app or system development (AOSP, APK deployment, ADB), device telemetry, remote command and control, and provisioning. Deep AWS experience, including AWS IoT Core and MQTT, serverless (Lambda, API Gateway, Cognito), and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform). Experience building AI agent systems: LLM tool use (MCP or equivalent), guardrails on what agents can do, and evals. Prior experience as a technical or engineering lead on a product team: owning architectural direction, setting standards, operating as a peer to product and design, and unblocking others without becoming a bottleneck. Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools (Cursor, Claude, Copilot) as part of your everyday workflow. Desired Qualifications BLE-based configuration and mobile provisioning workflows, and familiarity with iOS and Swift (CoreBluetooth). React and Node.js, for contributing to and reviewing Ops Portal front-end and Lambda work. Digital signage or kiosk-mode Android fleets. Event streaming (Kafka or equivalent). Observability tooling (CloudWatch, X-Ray, OpenTelemetry) and product analytics (Mixpanel), with a habit of building instrumentation into everything you ship. Healt
