About the role

Company Overview Micas Networks is a leading provider of open networking solutions for hyperscalers, cloud data centers, AI infrastructure, and OEM customers. We deliver high-performance Ethernet switching platforms supporting SONiC and other open network operating systems. Position Summary Micas Networks is seeking a hands-on, experienced Senior BSP / Platform Software Engineer to own the board support package (BSP) and low-level platform software for our SONiC-based data center switches. In this role, you will bring up new switch hardware from first power-on through production; develop and maintain the bootloader, Linux kernel drivers, and platform layers that let SONiC and other open network operating systems run on Micas hardware; and work closely with hardware, silicon-vendor, and customer engineering teams to resolve the hardest low-level issues. The ideal candidate has deep experience bringing up bare-metal / white-box Ethernet switches built on Broadcom switch silicon, understands the x86 and ARM boot and driver stack end to end, and is comfortable debugging at the hardware/software boundary. You will be the technical owner for platform software across multiple product generations and will help mentor other engineers on the team. Responsibilities Platform bring-up: Lead board bring-up of new switch platforms from first power-on through EVT/DVT/PVT and production, working with hardware engineers to debug and resolve critical low-level hardware/software issues. BSP development: Develop, customize, and maintain BSPs for x86_64 and ARM CPU subsystems, including BIOS/UEFI and U-Boot configuration, Linux kernel porting, device tree/ACPI, and Yocto or Debian-based build layers. Device drivers: Develop and maintain Linux kernel drivers for CPLD/FPGA, I2C/SMBus multiplexers, PCIe, SPI, UART, MDIO, and GPIO, and for platform peripherals such as optical transceivers (QSFP/OSFP), fans, PSUs, thermal sensors, and LEDs, exposed through sysfs. SONiC platform integration: Implement and maintain the SONiC platform layer, including platform modules, the sonic-platform Python API (chassis, SFP, fan, PSU, thermal, watchdog), PMON daemons, and device and port configuration, so SONiC runs reliably on every Micas platform. Broadcom SDK and SAI: Port and integrate the Broadcom SDK (XGS/DNX) and SAI on Tomahawk/Trident-family switch silicon, including port mapping, SerDes/PHY settings, and chip configuration files. ONIE and boot flow: Port and maintain ONIE (and ONL where needed) for new platforms, and own the installer and boot flow for SONiC and other NOS images. BMC and firmware: Develop and integrate OpenBMC on ASPEED BMCs (AST2600-class), including IPMI and Redfish, and deliver in-field firmware updates for BIOS, CPLD/FPGA, BMC, and ONIE. Validation and debug: Build hardware validation and diagnostic tools, and use kernel crash tooling (pstore/ramoops, kdump), JTAG, and lab instruments to root-cause failures in the lab and in customer deployments. Release and quality: Maintain BSP code in Git, perform code reviews, own platform software builds and releases, and contribute to CI and automated regression testing for platform features. Customer and vendor support: Serve as the platform software point of contact for hyperscaler, OEM, and ODM partners, and work with Broadcom and other component vendors on technical escalations. Qualifications BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related field. 8+ years of embedded or platform software development, including at least 5 years of BSP development and board bring-up on network switches or comparable embedded systems. Strong C programming and debugging skills in the Linux kernel and user space; proficiency in Python and shell scripting. Hands-on experience writing Linux kernel drivers and working with low-level interfaces such as I2C/SMBus, SPI, UART, PCIe, MDIO, GPIO, and Ethernet. Proven experience bringing up new boards, including bootloaders (U-Boot, BIOS/UEFI), kernel porting, and hardware validation alongside hardware engineers. Experience with Broadcom switch silicon and SDK (XGS and/or DNX) on bare-metal / white-box data center switches. Working knowledge of SONiC platform architecture, ONIE, and Yocto or Debian-based build systems. Ability to read schematics and datasheets and to use lab tools (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, JTAG debugger) to separate hardware issues from software issues.
