About the role
Overview Storable is seeking two experienced Software Development Managers to lead software development across our Marine and RV & Camping divisions. These leaders will build and modernize the software that powers the day-to-day operations of marinas, boatyards, yacht clubs, RV parks, campgrounds, resorts, and other specialty property businesses. We are hiring for two distinct opportunities under this posting: Marine (Storable Marine): Our Marine platform, including Molo and Rentals, supports marina, boat storage, service/yard, boat rental fleet, and boat-club management. Key workflows include slips and storage, reservations, online bookings, rentals, point of sale, payments, customer and vessel records, service operations, and reporting. RV & Camping (Newbook): Our RV & Camping platform supports outdoor hospitality operators managing sites and accommodations, reservations, online bookings, guest management, point of sale, payments, housekeeping and maintenance, channel and OTA integrations, and reporting. Each Software Development Manager will lead a dedicated engineering team within their respective division, delivering reliable, scalable technology that transforms how operators run their businesses and serve their customers. Our teams are deliberately lean and own their software from design through production, with no dedicated QE, DevOps, SRE, or Architect roles. We are looking for AI-native leaders and force multipliers who have already redesigned how engineering teams work around agentic AI, can demonstrate measurable results, and know how to make a lean, high-caliber team deliver like a much larger organization. About the Role As a Software Development Manager at Storable, you will lead an engineering team responsible for building and modernizing mission-critical SaaS applications used by operators and their customers around the world. Our technology environments include backend systems built with Node.js, PHP, and .NET, frontend applications primarily using React and JavaScript/TypeScript, SQL databases, and REST APIs. Specific technologies vary by division, with Marine utilizing Node.js, .NET, and PHP, and RV & Camping primarily utilizing PHP for backend development. You will be accountable for the health of both your team and the systems it owns, setting the standard for engineering excellence, technical execution, and the responsible use of AI as a core engineering capability. Your primary focus will be people leadership and team delivery, but this is not a process-only role. You will remain technically engaged through architecture and design reviews, code reviews, debugging, pairing, and occasional production coding, grounded in personal experience taking software from architecture through automated testing, deployment, and operations. What Ownership Means in This Role Our engineers are full-stack in both senses: they work hands-on across backend and frontend technologies, and they own their systems end to end. There are no dedicated QE, DevOps, SRE, or Architect roles to hand work off to. As Software Development Manager, you are accountable for making that model successful and establishing the practices, guardrails, and automation that enable engineers to deliver confidently. Architecture & Technical Design: Own the architecture and technical design of your team's systems, aligned with division-wide direction established in partnership with Staff Software Development Engineers. Quality & Testing: Own test strategy, automated unit, integration, end-to-end, and frontend testing, regression coverage, and release confidence. Development & Deployment: Own how the team builds and ships software, including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, environments, and production deployments. Operational Health: Own observability, alerting, service-level targets, sustainable on-call practices, incident response, and post-incident learning. Security & Scalability: Own security, performance, scalability, operating cost, and compliance readiness for your team's systems. End-to-End Accountability: Collaborate with shared platform and security teams where available, while retaining direct ownership of your team's systems. What You'll Do Define and execute a product-aligned engineering strategy for your assigned division, translating business priorities into roadmaps with clear KPIs and milestones. Own delivery outcomes from technical design through backend and frontend development, testing, release, and production operations, surfacing risks early and following through on commitments. Remain hands-on where it matters through pairing, architecture discussions, design reviews, pull request reviews, debugging, and occasional production coding. Establish and uphold standards for architecture, React and backend development, testing, code review, deployment, operations, and AI-assisted engineering workflows. Build and continuously improve CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, test automation, release practices, observability, and sustainable on-call processes. Lead incident response, promote security-first development and compliance readiness, and use production evidence, incident learning, and cost data to guide improvements. Lead modernization of legacy systems toward distributed, service-oriented architectures, using AI-assisted tooling to evaluate options and reduce migration risk without compromising quality. Recruit, develop, and retain a high-caliber engineering team; set clear expectations, provide regular feedback, address performance issues, and develop engineers into confident end-to-end owners. Define and track engineering indicators such as throughput, uptime, release quality, change failure rate, and cost efficiency, including the measurable impact of AI-enabled workflows. Partner closely with Product, Operations, and Client Success to align engineering delivery with customer needs and business priorities. Communicate transparently with stakeholders across the U.S. and Storable's global hubs through design documents, diagrams, asynchronous updates, and regular leadership reporting. What We're Looking For 7+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including direct experience managing, coaching, and growing engineering teams. Proven experience delivering SaaS products at scale in fast-paced, growth-oriented environments. Required: Hands-on production experience across both backend and frontend development, including REST APIs, React, and JavaScript/TypeScript, with backend experience in technologies relevant to the assigned division: Marine: Node.js, PHP, and/or .NET, with SQL databases. RV & Camping: PHP. Required: Thorough hands-on React experience in production, including component architecture, hooks, state management, API integration, and automated frontend testing. Required: Hands-on experience across the complete software delivery lifecycle, including architecture and technical design, frontend and backend development, automated testing, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and production deployment. Experience leading engineering teams that directly own quality, deployments, and production operations, including on-call and incident response, without dedicated QE, DevOps, or SRE functions. Required: Experience personally shipping, or leading a team that shipped, at least one LLM-powered feature to real users in production, with the ability to explain your role, how the feature was evaluated, what failed, and how it improved. Experience using AI coding tools alone does not meet this requirement. Required: Concrete, measurable evidence of redesigning engineering workflows around AI, including improvements in cycle time, throughput, quality, or operational workload, and the ability to explain how those improvements were measured. Strong ability to evaluate, challenge, and correct AI-generated work rather than accepting it without appropriate engineering review. Technical credibility and sound architectural judgment developed through meaningful hands-on software engineering experience. Demonstrated success modernizing legacy applications into cloud-native, service-oriented architectures. Strong experience with Agile/Lean development, continuous improvement, and pragmatic technical decision-making. Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to influence across functions and geographies and explain technical decisions to technical and nontechnical audiences. How We Expect Software Development Managers to Use AI We expect Software Development Managers to treat AI as a core engineering capability, both in their own work and in how they raise their team's effectiveness. You should regularly use tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar platforms and be able to demonstrate specific examples of how these tools have materially changed engineering outcomes.
